2010-01-11 .I think this is a great idea. Any manufacturer that does not get on board should be shunned!.
2010-01-07 .Awesome, I hate all these chargers, and having trickle power continue after a device is charged. .
2010-01-06 .Great idea. I've got two shoeboxes full of power adaptors for all my electronics..
2010-01-05 .When chargers make up almost the full quota for my cabin luggage, they also exhaust my patience..
2010-01-04 .I would be willing to pay a moderate premium for a green plug type power option - makes huge sense to me!
This is especially important for devices such as mobile phones, cameras and power tools that you plug in from time to time to charge or use (less important for something like a digital picture frame that stays plugged in all the time, but still desirable)..
2009-12-29 .I have a lot of devices, the ones I am voting for are only a few. I love the idea of switching to a single technology for power management on these devices, since it saves me a lot of money, time and is definitely a more green solution than anything else we have..
2009-12-24 .great idea.
2009-12-22 .Traditionally, the rare phone with MicroUSB, used it for charging and data transmission. It's frustrating enough that all manufacturers don't use this same adapter, and you have to purchase new car chargers and the like every time you switch phones. To add insult to injury, my new Nokia 5800 HAS a MicroUSB port, yet does NOT charge through it!!! Proof yet again, that corporate profits stifle innovation. .
2009-12-18 .This is an awsome idea to save us the assles of using many different adapter!!!.
2009-12-15 .Why no olympus/fujifilm under Digital Still camera.
2009-12-12 .These popular devices are bought regularly and some homes have multiples of these devices. It is important to reduce our consumption and dependency and to work together to create more efficient resource use..
2009-12-09 .I want my green plug yesterday!
-Kevin.
2009-12-03 .great idea, saves me taking numerous different chargers on holiday..
2009-12-03 .I want my Green Plug.
2009-11-30 .bravo!.
2009-11-21 .I've been thru 3 ac power adapters due to tip failure, obviously they are not robust enough Lets come up with a better idea.
2009-11-19 .The issue against standardization is Nokia liability. If they provide consumers with an adapter they know is safe for charging their brand phone then it is the users problem if he buys a common market adapter and it blows up during use. If they dont supply a charger then they are defacto endorsing that its safe to use any charger and therefore fear liabiiity for consequential damages..
2009-11-17 .The concept is brilliant and yes obviously needed.
110% a supporter. Is this 5 years away from being a wide spread reality in the consumer electronic market?.
2009-11-16 .I work on the road a lot, so power management is a constant concern. I would so wish to have one single power adapter or charger for all of my devices..
2009-11-13 .Its a fantastic idea. We need it in ALL our devices.
2009-11-13 .I want ONE type of contact and recharger for charging both my laptop and other rechargable stuff..
2009-11-12 .I want my computers and all their peripheral devices to use a common waste minimising power source, and if Apple used such a device,, the manufacturers of peripherals would follow..
2009-11-12 .game on!.
2009-11-12 .I love it! I'd like to sell them in our store! www.GreenBeansRewards.com.
2009-10-30 .Excellente initiative.
Bravo!!.
2009-10-22 .Fantastic! Your pictures shows a 3 cord unit. I think it could easily go to 6 (printer, scanner, router/switch, camera, ipod, laptop!) Could lcd monitors be powered off this? TV set-top boxes, HTPCs, PVRs the list is endless :) & If this could deliver usb as well, that would also reduce cable count.
Bring it on!.
2009-10-14 .you can even have these 'green-plugs' in public places (restuarants, cafes, etc) and you KNOW you can charge what ever device you have. Or if your Nokia charger breaks, why not be able to use the one that came with your Samsung??.
2009-10-14 .I want one - are there any available - even for beta testing???.
2009-10-07 .enough is enough.....
2009-09-30 .This is a great idea, I am sick of carrying 3+ chargers when I travel and needing 2 differn't chargers in my car.
2009-09-29 .blah.
2009-09-28 .awesome idea! Good luck.
2009-09-28 .Good idea!
Too bad there are already patents out on this technology.
2009-09-25 .I know too many people with drawers of unnecessary power supplies. Besides being wasteful, they often end up in landfills and toxic chemical are leeched into the ground!.
2009-09-19 .Please oh please make this happen. And have it also control electricity waste but shutting off the power automatically when your device is not in use or when your cell phone is not charged!.
2009-09-12 .a great idea and product for our times. Go greenplug.
2009-08-28 .
Less tripping for the elders, will save on health care - seriously? - less clutter on earth. .
2009-08-26 .That would be just a few of the items that have multiple plugs that are all unlabeled. Wasted ways wasted days time sucking energy (mine) depleting items!.
2009-08-18 .I find your site very informative..
2009-08-12 .Do this!.
2009-08-08 .It a good idea. I think everything should be 12 volts because batteries are just that. At least make the "One Tip" A lot of electronics that run DC voltage will have different tips! I guess it is so one does not blow the circuits inside. They need to make everything 12v DC..
2009-08-03 .This is an idea whose time has (LONG AGO!) come!.
2009-07-30 .I love the idea of a universal power supply that will provide only the power needed and that will not be a waste of electricity. It would feel good to help the environment while eliminating the 'wallwart' clutter..
2009-07-24 .I can't stand having to keep track of all the non-standard chargers for every electronic device I own. I also feel guilty buying new electronics and having to throw away a perfectly good charger because you decided to change the connector type! Be reasonable, switch to standard power supplies!.
2009-07-07 .this is a great idea! .
2009-07-02 .It's time to stop the waste of a power supply for each cordless device we own, not to mention the aggrevation of losing the charger to something that is seldom used but very useful nonetheless. .
2009-07-01 .About **** time - was discussing the phenomenal waste and rampant market and price creation involved with a colleague only yesterday, then reread Scientific American 3 and saw that you guys are doing EXACTLY what is needed.
Now, hook it up with a solar panel, a battery or fuel cell, a kinetic recharger and a kettle and I will be happy :).
2009-06-30 .Make this happen! I'm sick of carrying around four adapters when I travel and commute..
2009-06-30 .One device to power tons of things just makes sense. It saves power and clutter..
2009-06-29 .One plug for everyone and everything is best idea of last years..
2009-06-27 .It be a great product I hate being tangled up. I love playing video games and own several different consoles meaning lots of wires! I say make alot of plugs so going green plug can be easy I know I'd buy it. .
2009-06-23 .Brilliant idea and long overdue!.
2009-06-22 .Go green!!!.
2009-06-17 .I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!.
2009-06-15 .Yes!!!!!! Any possibility you can get it done yesterday?.
2009-06-14 .Bricks are for building buildings, not cluttering the work environment with overseas electronics that are not interchangeable.
I vote for a power strip/surge protector that comes with built in universal converter/adaptor. .
2009-06-10 .I like the idea..
2009-06-07 .it's an idea that is long overdue!.
2009-06-04 .Less hassle, less wires, less clutter, less plugs, and less headache. No one wants any of those from cords..
2009-06-02 .Hurry up and get this out there!!.
2009-06-01 .Are you a limited company or private?.
2009-05-27 .I hate having so many cords. I dislike that when many adapters are left plugged they pull power constantly. I'd like one cord to my charging station. Nice and simple. I would support companies who standardized their cords..
2009-05-27 .I think this inniciative is awsome, I have to carry along in my backpack multiple power supply cables, connectors that I use every day..
2009-05-24 .A universal adapter would make so much sence. So much of the waste (that I luckily can recycle) for my clients in their office is either paper or unused cords! .
2009-05-20 .This is a great idea!!! I want the world to get behind this idea and stop wasting cords and electricity. Less cords will really simplify my life!.
2009-05-14 .I have a billion different cables. Screw that..
2009-05-10 .no more power adapters for each device!.
2009-05-08 .I like the idea of less waste going to landfills or other countries to be discarded. Move this idea forward and make the changes needed to get this to market ASAP..
2009-05-07 .Great idea and hope it is launched and available for sale. .
2009-05-06 .it's very good.
2009-05-05 .I feel that a green plug would help me in my everyday life to deal with a disarray of plugs to my many electronic devices..
2009-05-04 .All these different chargers, adaptors, etc, are such a waste. We need to do something about it!.
2009-05-04 .The Green Plug is a fantastic idea. Not only would it be environmentally friendly, it would also save lots of time and clutter!.
2009-05-04 .Why not adapt this for TVs, toasters, and as much personal machinery as we can? I'd be willing to pay for this, even if it meant trying to replace older plugs by retrofit and recycle..
2009-04-29 .What a fantastic idea. I would love to see something like this in production..
2009-04-29 .I have 2 drawers full of cords!.
2009-04-29 .This is an idea someone should have come up with years ago..
2009-04-29 .Where and when can I get my green plug?.
2009-04-29 .I hate having all of these tangled cords and not being able to reuse them.
2009-04-27 .Computer Speakers (All Makes).
2009-04-27 .What happened to thingy that said how many people voted yet?
Oh yeah, and great idea!.
2009-04-24 .Green Plug matters the most in the computer corner of the room. That's where the wall warts accumulate -- modems, routers, APs, hard drives, scanners... For portable units it still matters for the sake of standardisation, but the critical feature of Green Plug is removing redundant units..
2009-04-23 .Give us some more options for "maker" fields!
.
2009-04-22 .I want my Green Plug!.
2009-04-21 .C'mon Electricity hasn't changed since Ben Franklin and we still use wall warts????? Yeah I wan't my Greeplug.
2009-04-20 .I think it would be great to have one power source for all my electronics. Especially one that helps save me money and electricity!!!.
2009-04-17 .Do you not show current results/rankings somewhere? That would make it more interesting for media and analysts to cover this effort..
2009-04-15 .This idea is excellent. I hope you guys make the specification and implementation as open as possible. What about high current devices like a monitor or set of speakers?.
2009-04-15 .I want a green plug... I want them all over my home!!! :D.
2009-04-07 .I agree with a small, universal plug for all mass-use electric devices. Only High end appliances such as computer servers should remain at a 3-phase power terminal..
2009-04-06 .Long overdue indeed!.
2009-04-06 .Great idea having a universal power supply that utilizes the USB port..
2009-04-02 .Need to also have the option of running wiring throughout the house (similar to phone or ethernet wiring) -- ie one high-efficiency DC supply for the whole house..
2009-03-29 .I think this is a great idea..
2009-03-27 .Please lets make this a reality!.
2009-03-25 .This is so obvious that it hurts to know how resistant these companies are to this kind of change. Much of the resistance is fear of litigation, and the obvious chicken/egg problem: nobody wants to be the first. I'm so glad that Green Plug is fighting the good fight!.
2009-03-24 .I think this is one of the most important things companies can do to not only help the environment but also simplify the lives of their customers. This is a very good thing!.
2009-03-23 .Great idea. Hope you will be succesful :-).
2009-03-23 .Although destined for newer product releases, it would beneficial to be able to retrofit these devices..
2009-03-23 .rrrrrrr v c ZX sasqqqqqqqqqa.
2009-03-23 .what a waste to buy a new power source for every phone, camer device etc., etc.,.
2009-03-20 .What I'd really like to see is an inductive charging station. Similar to the charging system on the Philips Sonicare toothbrush, this is a tablet sized plastic pad that automatically charges any device placed on it..
2009-03-20 .Please!
IWant My GreenPlug!!! ;-).
2009-03-19 .make it happen.
2009-03-17 .Great idea, I hope it gets into the market quickly..
2009-03-13 .It's ridiculous having a drawer full of chargers for devices which use about the same amount of power at similar voltages. In addition, the connectors on phones and cameras are so fragile, it could extend their usable lifetimes not having to plug them in and out. Add wireless keyboards and mice to the list - I'm tired of replacing batteries..
2009-03-12 .It would make life so much easier and reduce the horrible clutter thats accumulating beneath my desk..
2009-03-10 .It would be so convenient to have a single plug for the multitude of devices. Far easier for travel, too. Just think, hotels and airports could just make the universal Green Plug available and you wouldn't even have to carry your own..
2009-03-09 .I want to do everything I can to be green. .
2009-03-08 .We are already late, yet we have to....
2009-03-07 .I want a simpler and greener life! Thanks!.
2009-03-05 .great idea. Make it happen soon..
2009-03-05 .Great idea whose time is NOW. I have about 12 portable devices and am constantly trying to find the adapter I need for each one. A green plug standardized around a USB interface seems the ideal solution. .
2009-03-05 .This idea needs to happen. It's WAAAYYYY overdue. It would be extremely wonderful if it would happen..
2009-03-04 .WHY would Samsung make two models with different power adaptors?!!!! When my husband upgraded not only did he have to recycle his old phone, but even the adapter, which was in perfectly good condition.... We have made the decision that the next phone we buy will use an adaptor we already own.. or we will do without..
2009-03-04 .It is a greet idea and it will save our plant from alt of bullation..
2009-03-04 .Great idea. Sooner it is implemented the better..
2009-03-03 .I want my fscking green plug dammit!!!!.
2009-03-03 .The world needs Green Plug to cut energy consumption.
Thanks.
2009-03-03 .Are these manufacturers prepared to adopt the greenplug? .
2009-03-03 .I ahve already had a fire once because of a hot spot where pressure was placed ona cord, but cords also get crossed over (creating a risk of shorting), create a dust collection area, pull out accidently, get untidy and yes, I ahve a had a dog try teathing on a power cable..
2009-03-03 .Mate, this is the best bloody poizah and idea overall.
Good job Green plug!.
2009-03-03 .This green plug sounds like a great thing. Simple, but more importantly good for the planet!
From now on, I'll only buy green-pluggable devices..
2009-03-03 .Each time I change my mobile (cell) phone I have a different adapter - even when the manufacturer is the same e.g. Nokia
A universal standard would benefit us all.
2009-03-03 .All electronics we use today should have a greenplug. Every one of us has added to the planetary burden with our power useage by depending on these multiple "small" power out-takes. Add them all up and it is a very BIG outtake we must avoid..
2009-03-03 .I have had problems with my 3 year old laptop when the adaptor broke and I had to get one at huge expense because Alienware no longer supplied the parts for it. If I could power it via the Green Plug, I wouldn't have to worry about parts going obsolete because now I have a fully functioning laptop that I cannot use because I cannot power it up. (Cos surprise surprise - the adaptor broke again).
2009-03-03 .Long overdue idea..
2009-03-02 .Great idea, long overdue!
(From someone in The Netherlands.).
2009-03-02 .very good idea, help both consumers and the planet. i'm not sure about the manufacturer though. i think the USB platform would be good place to start?.
2009-03-02 .It's about time that we have a universal power adapter for all of our electronic devices..
2009-03-01 .Amazing Idea!.
2009-03-01 .save the planet, one socket at a time.
2009-03-01 .I, and many others, have wanted one charger, with one plug, for all phones and laptops. It is just stupid not being able to charge your equipment, when visiting your friends, unless you ALLWAYS carry your own chargers.
2009-03-01 .Although backwards compatibility is tough, I'm sure, I'd also like you to think of expansion of the type of device you can get at Radio Shack - while its current is a limitation, at least it's a viable replacement when, say, the power supply on your router goes dead..
2009-02-28 .I want one plug and smart charger for ALL of my devices. I want it now!!!.
2009-02-26 .We need ,,green"!.
2009-02-26 .Great idea - what a huge impact this would have on "eWaste". Make it happen!.
2009-02-26 .Great idea! Plugs should be smart so they stop trickling power to an already charged device. .
2009-02-26 .Great idea!.
2009-02-26 .I've got a zillion of these things hanging around from old equipment. Standardizing them would enable manufacturers to offer them as addons if the consumer needs/wants to purchase. Healthy for the environment as well as reducing costs..
2009-02-25 .it's a great idea of an universal plug.
2009-02-25 .Its completely crazy to have one charger per device, even if almost all are using 5V at maximum 1Amp..
2009-02-25 .Should be the future.
2009-02-24 .every electronic device - point and click cameras, especially those that run on disposable batteries, I hate that the most, you could also make rechargers that are solar powered for on the road use, again my example would be cameras when I'm out taking snaps and it runs flat I could charger with mobile solar charger or a green car adapter..
2009-02-24 .This is THE WAY to go!!!.
2009-02-24 .Why do we need different things for so many devices? Seems silly to me. Good job on trying to standardise..
2009-02-23 .An idea whose time has come; it's so logical and such a no-brainer I can't believe it's taken this long to come to the fore, much less get adopted by electronics manufacturers..
2009-02-23 .With all of the airline restrictions on luggage today - I find my collection of cords and adapters are costing me more to travel. This is clearly a smarter way to manage power - so whats taking so long?.
2009-02-21 .yes. Too much clutter. I'll buy immediately....
2009-02-21 .great initiative!.
2009-02-20 .Because my existing converters waste energy I end up turning everthing off at the power strip when not in use, which causes me to curse the equipment manufacturers as I crawl underneath my desk. As my equipment wears out or becomes obsolecent I regrettably end up throwing out my power units, which also makes me curse the equipment manufactures. When I pay the electric bill I'm pissed off that I'm needlessly leaking electricity which costs me money and worse yet causes extra and unnecessary CO2 emissions. .
2009-02-19 .Please do this!.
2009-02-19 .No Acer laptop or Sony Walkman?.
2009-02-18 .It's amazing how much power supplies I use !
Make you best !
When I see eee box at 20 W instead of 150 W usually, we are in a world of waste.
Sebastien.
2009-02-18 .Great idea! Being tech savvy I like being surrounded by all those electronic gadgets. However I resent coils of wire under my desk. Would be a dream gadget for travellers - not having to take all those heavy power supplies!.
2009-02-18 ."Its very important that we have a universally stanard power adapters".
2009-02-18 .A standardized power source would be a wonderful option. Certainly, we don't want to impede the wonderful innovation that companies like Apple have undertaken with magnetic plugs etc. However, after owning a series of Nokia phones, and slowly collecting a series of interchangeable power supplies, the potential benefits for simple convenience are enough to sell the idea. And the fact that standardization leads to a greener future is a bonus multiplier!!! Many stock-standard DC supplies haven't changed form-factor in years and years. I don't want to buy another. Please, be kinder to my wallet, kinder to the environment, kinder to tangle of wires sticking out from the "charging station" in my bedroom..
2009-02-18 .This is looooong overdue!.
2009-02-18 .I want one charger to work for ALL my portable electronics.
2009-02-18 .AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Serenity NOW!.
2009-02-18 .This is the most nessesary consumer-friendly development I can imagine for the cluttered modern home..
2009-02-17 .I think the idea is great.
However, there should be a new version of the standard that takes USB 3.0 and Micro-USB into account..
2009-02-17 .The 'Other' option in the drop down boxes should be separated from the other ones to make it more obvious..
2009-02-17 .Great idea. However, saw a story on cnn.com today suggesting nearly all cellphones will use micro-USB connectors for charging by 1/1/2012. Does this conflict with your plans?
That story is at http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/ptech/02/17/cellphone.chargers/index.html.
2009-02-17 .Universal power supplies would be great to help reducing e-waste and simplifying life..
2009-02-16 .Great! Better for environment. Less stuff to carry around. Less expensive accessories that are cheap to produce!
(MP3 -> Archos).
2009-02-16 .great idea, one for all, but is it technically possible ??.
2009-02-16 .yeah, i agree... one power cord please. this is why i use to only get nokia phones... I want my electric toothbrush to have a usb adapter or something like that please.
2009-02-16 .Universal charging = green energy usage!.
2009-02-16 .This is a good idea and there is no excuse not to adopt these sorts of features..
2009-02-16 .I think this is a great idea!.
2009-02-15 .GREAT IDEA!!!
GOOD LUCK!!
Asaf
Israel.
2009-02-15 .i suspect anything that recharges would benefit from a universal plug.
2009-02-15 .This is a great idea. I would imagine manufacturers will balk at the idea initially as if will affect a significant stream of revenue. Don't quit though and you marketing department should be making use of online petition sites like Care2 as well as starting social networking pages/causes at facebook to get the word out to the masses... stay strong and keep pushing! Andre'.
2009-02-15 .It should've been done long time ago. Good luck with implementing it!.
2009-02-14 .The world of mobile phones is complicated enough! And that's just the start..
2009-02-14 .Great idea. Small footprint plugs with a simple child-resistant locking mechanism would be fantastic. And a single global standard would just be FANTASTIC. If it's going to be made, why not universal?.
2009-02-14 .why do digital camers runn of there batteries when you are getting your pics off of them.? they should be able to charge on there usb chords.
2009-02-13 .My next laptop will probably be a Dell, but I would hate to have to replace 3 power adapters (I have 3 offices).
.
2009-02-13 .Many electronic manufacturers today try to align themselves with a hip and forward thinking persona. Support for this initiative would not only be consistent with that message, it could easily move market share given the right public exposure..
2009-02-13 .I had to replace the power chord for my Mac. First, it was hard to find. Second, they charged a fortune. It has to be at least a 1000% markup. I can see great resistance from Apple on this. But they're criminal in their common practice on this..
2009-02-13 .This is just a no brainer from the consumer perspective. I'll buy my next device from the first company adopting this..
2009-02-13 .Excellent idea! Can we also figure out a way to return/recycle all the old obsolete chargers?.
2009-02-12 .This is a great idea. There's no reason to waste energy charging already fully charged devices. Plus a common plug would go a long way to simplifying things a great deal..
2009-02-12 .I am sick of having so many different power adapters. I look to buy adapters that are standard USB for my smaller devices so that they are all compatible. I would do the same for larger devices that require more than 5V DC..
2009-02-11 .great idea guys!!!.
2009-02-11 .I realize that electronics require different voltages for power, so I don't expect to be able to replace all of my device charges with one simple wall wort - but it would be fantastic to be able to use the same plug for all of my devices, and then switch the cable between different wall adapters.
For small electronics, I really appreciate it when they are able to be powered via USB, since there are a ton of USB cables available to consumers. A Universal Power Plug would be even better than that! .
2009-02-11 .Finally I won't have to throw out a bunch of cables every couple of years!.
2009-02-11 .Let's have a universal charger! Please! Instead of making money from extra junk (chargers) steal customers from your competition by making a quality product and having an honest relationship with your customers..
2009-02-11 .This feature would definitely influence my purchasing decisions..
2009-02-10 .Great idea! Really hope something comes of it!.
2009-02-10 .Green Plugs would make running electonic equipment so much easier and less wasteful..
2009-02-10 .I love the idea. Even if just for phones, it'd be great to not have to ask your friends while out who has a charger for Brand X.
This should be as standard as our wall sockets..
2009-02-10 .One plug for all these, unbelievably good idea..
2009-02-09 .Why not make every powerconnection universal or at least so that there is an universal basic connector and a transfer piece for those who want to be hard-headed..
2009-02-09 .It's a shame that this hasn't gone through still. Although manufacturers have a huge benefit from producing all sorts of chargers, consumers will definitely benefit from such an idea..
2009-02-09 .This sounds like a great idea. It is annoying having all these different supplies either dying before their component or surviving beyond it. Of course, that means, they'd have to be adaptable power-wise..
2009-02-09 .This is not only green - it is also the only clever way. Manufacturers not supporting are demonstrating lack of both customer and environment focus....
2009-02-09 .In Europe there is a recycling charge added to the sale price for all electronic goods, (The Waste Management (Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations.
It would be an incentive to Manufacturers, if greenplug compatible devices qualified for a lower recycling charge.!
.
2009-02-09 .Hurry Up! :).
2009-02-09 .This is a major start, if applied, towards resource management, power management and frustration management. The bottom line is that it would help the environment..
2009-02-09 .This is an idea that should have been implemented long long ago.
2009-02-09 .I keep losing the proprietary charger and it makes me consider giving up and buying something with standard charging..
2009-02-09 .I've got at least 6 different power connectors in use right now and a box in the closet with maybe another 20-25 old ones as "spares". There is no good reason to not standardize the power requirements of most devices. However, I can understand why device manufacturers don't want to pay still more license fees. If the standardization was based on freely available open source technology it would be much attractive to manufacturers and consumers..
2009-02-09 .Motorola already uses a mini-USB AC adapter. Kudos to them!
Standardized AC adapters make sense, however GreenPlug's approach may be overkill. Let there be _one_ adapter plug and polarization for each of 3.3V, 6V, 12V, 24V, etc. Let each such plug be mechanically incompatible with all the others, so that you can't plug a 3.3V device into a 24V adapter.
Then, put the charger smarts into each recharged device. There is no reason to overcharge a battery, since battery charger chips are cheap and have been on the market for decades. It is bloody OEM greed that they design products to overcharge and shorten battery life. Thus, they get to reduce manufacturing costs (which aren't passed through to the consumer) and sell very expensive replacement batteries..
2009-02-09 .great idea!.
2009-02-09 .Just a great idea. Technically feasible. Why not? Would relieve in carrying several adapters, including 2 different Nokia models (in my case). Come on, let this project start!.
2009-02-09 .Finally !!!.
2009-02-08 .can't believe we are at 2009 and this wasn't created before!
.
2009-02-08 .That's a great idea indeed. Battery operated devices are supposed to help one with mobility. But the variety of their chargers and/or adapter bricks is just hindering it ! Good luck with your project !.
2009-02-08 .Having a universal power adapter has been far too long in coming. Having a multitude of different power adapters is an expensive and wasteful for the end user. I am tired of having to carry a pile of power adapters every time I go on a trip. And there have been several times that Ive had to spend $30+ for a missing/broken adapter simply because of it having a proprietary connector and/or power requirement..
2009-02-08 .If the companies could just agree on 1 powerplug indeed. Just like the computer makers have done in the past. And for mobile music devices: adapt the jack-plug for headsets.
2009-02-08 .ever try finding the adapter to rogue electronics at 3 in the morning?.
2009-02-08 .Having all these different power supplies is a huge waste of resources. I Never need them all at the same time. I do not want to carry 5 power supplies when I travel. I do not want to throw away my power supply when I get a new piece of equipment. Let's stop wasting resources and energy solely so that gadget makers can make a little more profit..
2009-02-08 .Must be done simply to save the waste of raw materials.
2009-02-08 .I want this as a standard! I will not by another device until this is available. I have tossed hundreds of dollars into my junk basket due to dead power adapters and/or devices ruined by inadvertent mismatched power adapters..
2009-02-08 .A standard plug and cable, and a standard power-requirement communication technology is the way to go. Licensing costs should be minimal..
2009-02-08 .one for all - yeah!.
2009-02-08 .I had to buy 2 different chargers for the 2 cell phones my wife and I we have ... silly..
2009-02-08 .We have Smart Phones, Smart Cars, and hopefully Smart Kids...
Conventional wisdom tells us that soon after the novelty of a new item wears off, teh market is looking for interoperability and standardization... Why doesn't that apply to power delivery devices? the novelty wore off decades ago, and I am very frustrated with all of the power adaptors I'm forced to carry around.
P.S. Your web site is soooooo slow that I only listed a very small fraction of the devices I could have. I'm sure many people get frustrated and leave the site before voting..
2009-02-08 .I hope that you can convince manufactures to standardize. However, your site is so slow that its hard to vote..
2009-02-08 .Computer speakers are missing from your device list. It's about time the wall warts went away..
2009-02-08 .I think it's absolutely abysmal that we have to throw so much stuff away whenever we upgrade to a newer product. Is 5V in the 21st century somehow different from 5V in the 20th?.
2009-02-08 .Proprietary plug, proprietary batteries (that only last a year or two) proprietary charger...
When will these manufacturers realise that the public will NOT put up this this any more.
I for one will not be buying ANYTHING unless it uses the plugs, batteries, chargers I already have..
2009-02-08 .OMG....life would be so much easier with one standard plug. C'mon electronics giants.....stop the madness..
2009-02-08 .I have a closet full of chargers. Worse, they're the cheap, inefficient type. We need a universal, efficient power supply to help save electricitry and $$$. One plug (even if it's expensive) would be a great solution. Manufacturers wouldn't have to include it in their product, lowering the price of electronics..
2009-02-08 .I'm disgusted by the waste and ugliness of all my wall warts -- I'd pay extra for a device with a universal power supply. .
2009-02-08 .Just like the late Douglas Adams said in his writings entitled 'Little Dongly Things', there is no need to have so many adapters! It is *not* consumer friendly at all! Traveling and mobility, in essence what the majority of these devices are for, becomes infinitely more cumbersome, let alone even having an appropriate number of wall outlets to handle these plugs. And none of that even addresses the environmental impact of the existing design. Simply put, the current way of powering things is flawed. The older design is flawed. There needs to be a change. I believe GreenPlug represents that change (...and I also wish that last statement didn't sound so much like a political speech! [lol]).
2009-02-08 .Consumers should not be held hostage by those that produce the equipment we all use. Choosing components with interchangeable parts has been and will be a criteria when deciding on technology purchases for me and my company..
2009-02-08 .fingers crossed you will succeed!.
2009-02-08 .As soon as I see such devices on the market, whatever they may be... printers, laptops, etc... those are the manufacturers I will patronize and no others.
A Radio Shack adapter broke recently after just a three weeks of use... i could not find the receipt and went back to the store for another one. They wanted $40 dollars for the adapter, and another $10 a piece for the tiny tips to connect it to different devices! It came with no such tips! I was so P.O.ed I stormed out of the place and will do no more business with them. I found a generic adapter for a dollar to do the same thing at the 99 cent store!
The adapter for a Bluetooth headset looked like a standard mini USB, but when the battery finally wore down I tried to plug it into the mini USB I have in my bedroom and it was just a tiny bit smaller just to make it incompatible!.
2009-02-08 .Mobile phones should at least use a universal power adapter..
2009-02-08 .ACER laptops .
2009-02-08 .You don't provide nearly enough fields to cover all the power bricks that I need to power my many devices, all of them incompatible with one another and all of them power hogs. What an environmental disaster.
I unplug each device when it isn't in use to save the continual power drain, but still it wastes an unbelievable amount of power, to say nothing of the disposal problems of throwing away dozens of unusable power bricks annually as models change and power bricks with them. I have four Dell laptops alone at the moment, and each of them has a different, incompatible power brick, as did the two I just sent back to Dell for recycling.
I believe that, despite your best efforts, nothing will happen until the government mandates standard connectors and standards for power brick efficiency. I'll write my representatives in Congress and the editors of Consumer Reports today to push your worthwhile venture..
2009-02-08 .Pepole will pay extra for the embedded chip to save on chargers. Manufacturers won't have to include chargers - a big savings. Let the replacement mfrs make usb cables!.
2009-02-08 .I dream of not worrying about which charger I bring with me when I travel..
2009-02-08 .some of my devices can be charged over usb and an adapter. This is a good start I guess.
You would require some chargers (or a charger with multiple exits) as your laptop, phone and Nintende are always empty at the same time :).
2009-02-08 .Great idea!.
2009-02-08 .It is a very good idea. As a journalist from Greece I will try and promote it.
2009-02-08 .We really need this standard. It will help reduce waste from all these unnecessary power supplies and benefit the consumer by cost savings and convenience. I have dreamt of this idea myself..
2009-02-08 .I'm tired of custom power bricks that add to clutter and waste. I'd love a standard power system..
2009-02-08 .It would certainly affect my choice of manufacturers of appliences if I could consolidate my P/S to just 2 or 3. .
2009-02-08 .I think this green plug is an excellent idea and could be extended to other equipment too. There is just too much non-standard equipment in the world today and standardisation could save millions of dollars and help the environment,.
2009-02-08 .Wow - this would be nice, I could put green charging stations for my "toys" at work and at home. It would be great to not have to trash the wall warts when we get new stuff..
2009-02-08 .What a great PR coup this would be for manufacturers. I'd definitely choose a Green Plug device over one without this technology!.
2009-02-08 .I was an electricion for over twenty five years, a little over five years ago I was disabled by a car hitting me. Not only did I notice how many wires crowed the floor in the hospital at home now I have forty at least devices that NONE of the power connections are interchangeable and many ARE the same voltage! .
2009-02-08 .Less swapping when charging multiple devices! It just makes sense..
2009-02-08 .I am sick of the ineffciency of companies that charge reackless amounts on after sales support making it completely worthless to fix anything. If the power setup is generic, then it will save society as a whole literally billions of dollars..
2009-02-08 .Let me see, of the dozens of rechargeable devices that I have, all I need really is, oh, let's see, ah, one of the dozen or so USB cables that I have lying around. Why would I want to buy another way to charge something when USB seems to be the best solution. Even in the kitchen, I bought a usb hub and a couple of cables, and viola, a charge station! There is already a universal adapter out there. I look for products that can be recharged via USB and I buy them. Why or why would I need ANOTHER bulky item that just adds to the final cost?
a single ac->USB plug for 5V power is dirt cheap for single device charger. The old USB hubs are perfect for 4-7port chargers. Do I need to go on, or are people already seeing the fact that there is a growing standardization to universal chargers? It's been around for a while..
2009-02-08 .This is a long standing necessity for consumers. I'll favour any product that adopt this in the future!!.
2009-02-08 .This is a great Idea for the future.
2009-02-08 .brilliant idea! .
2009-02-08 .I would like to have only one power supply for all my devices!.
2009-02-08 .This is an idea that makes sense. .
2009-02-08 .If I had a choice between 2 similar products I would choose the green plug compatible version even if it cost more..
2009-02-08 .We need an open standard, completely free from licensing fees, so that all manufactures, from basement electronics hobbyists to global enterprises, are equally able and encouraged to participate.
No one "owns" the idea behind our current electrical scheme of 110 volt 60 hertz alternating current, so no one should own the next logical progression either..
2009-02-08 .Great Idea!! If there is a possibility for multiple charging at once e.g. 4 devices at the same time, it would be PERFECT!!.
2009-02-08 .Finally! This should be done as an open spec/standard consortium comprised of all manufacturers that want to stay relevant, w/o licensing royalties or other barriers to entry..
2009-02-07 .Put the customer's needs and desires first! This is what matters to the company's long term success and survival..
2009-02-07 .We need this now... millions of kilowatts will be saved and the ubiquitous charger will rule..
2009-02-07 .This has been a long time coming, its about time a company has taken an active interest in saving raw materials and our enviroment..
2009-02-07 .This would be great I work at Radio Shack. I get people in all the time saying "I need a Charger." Well we got these what kind of device... I got my own slew of devices PSP, DSLite, Samsung Cell Phone, Casio Camera. Yup they all have different chargers and methods. Though I would prefer a open standard compared to this one which looks to be a proprietary solution. I needs to be open other wise it will probably fail, because of the little guy not being able to afford it for his small project, or anything along that line..
2009-02-07 .Waste not, want not. I want this. I hate waste..
2009-02-07 .I'd like not to need to keep around a box of power supplies just in case..
2009-02-07 .I hope the various corporate machines decide to do their part in saving this already, pretty much doomed planet..
2009-02-07 .A wonderful idea to end a lot of nonsense..
2009-02-07 .I think this is an excellent idea. Truly green thinking.
The environment needs more ideas like this..
2009-02-07 .The reality is, this needs consumers demanding it. It's not going to happen. I wish we were better!.
2009-02-07 .Standards are good for the consumer..
2009-02-07 .I have LOTS of portable electronics, having to cary all of the chargers is a royal pita. More importantly, lots of people I meet with also cary lots of kit. When we meet somewhere, like a conference room, it becomes unmanageable. With this technology, a conference room could be setup with a greenplug hub and supply power for everything (laptops, phones, switches, wireless, etc).
2009-02-07 .Nice idea.
2009-02-07 .its absolutely ridiculous and wasteful to implement so many different ways of doing exactly the same thing and i'm sick of having to sift through a draw full of chargers for the right one every time i want to charge a device. I will be evaluating future purchases on the use of this standard as it is very important to me..
2009-02-07 .I'm drowning under all the drawers and boxes full of chargers. When will the manufacturers finally standardise so that I only need to keep 1 charger for my devices?.
2009-02-07 .Great initiative but poor response on the manufacturer's part!.
2009-02-07 .Given the choice of buying devices with universal power adapters or differing proprietary ones I would heavily sway towards buying devices that support a universal adapter..
2009-02-07 .I cant believe this hasn't been developed already. Somthing like this has a double benefit of reducing landfill as well as the convenience of only needing 1 adapter.
Obviously device makers are generating a healty profit from proprietary adapters. This in turn allows them to reduce the prices of their devices. I think initially we as consumers have to be prepared to pay slightly more for devices that support this (or something like this). Otherwise device makers have no incentive to support it..
2009-02-07 .A very good idea - somebody needs to get a group going on Facebook.
2009-02-07 .I struck up a conversation with a support technician at the AT&T Store near me the other day. He had a case full of 110 different power connectors. He told me that handles MOST of the phone equipment he works on. Ridiculous..
2009-02-07 .We need some international standard for power-supplies for simplifying the use of our thingies..
2009-02-07 .this is a amazing idea cant wait to have it on my electronic devices..
2009-02-07 .Please get a maximum of makers use this universal green plug.. thanks you for your effort !.
2009-02-07 .Let´s get this plug mess over and done with - for 30 years it has been like that - even Douglas Adams had complained about it! ;) .
2009-02-07 .People are fed up with all these chargers and if the manufacturers don't embrace an idea like this, someone else will come up with a different one, which takes the chargers away anyway. Get over it. People are fed up with bags full of tangled wires, something better change! .
2009-02-07 .I have a variety of devices, some of them as similar in type (eg. more than one mobile phone) and the fact that the manufacturers cannot come to an agreement about having ONE charger or adapter is a singular damning commentary on them..
2009-02-07 .Less waste and less clutter make me come back to you to buy more, not less!.
2009-02-07 .It's ridiculous that I have to keep a single adapter around for every single piece of electronics. Right now, I have at least 10 different adapters lying around. Just standardize!.
2009-02-07 .My desk is a mess with so many cables, This is an idea that makes the most sense..
2009-02-07 .This is so important, not just because it's annoying and awkward to carry around all of these adapters, but because it's just such a waste! I'd gladly pay more for devices that supported the universal adapter..
2009-02-07 .the G1 phone and the PS3 support standard USB chargers. It's great!
quite a difference from my old Nokia phone and the Wii and the XBox.
Also, I noticed that at the and, because of these proprietary locks-in you end up paying more, in spite of what the general assumption seems to indicate.
The comparison between XBox and PS3 is a good example..
2009-02-07 .Please, God..
2009-02-07 .Absolutely great idea. Universal plug should have been invented long time ago. We have common tcp/ip, usb, wifi, so why not standardized power supply?.
2009-02-07 .This is a no-brainer. As a consumer I always prefer standardized power supplies. .
2009-02-07 .It's neigh impossible to find the correct adapter for an old device in a box with many old devices, not to mention the clutter of many odd-shaped power bricks in my room. A single standard would help tremendously..
2009-02-07 .I *hate* having a half a dozen chargers! Worse, some phones from the same manufacturer don't use the same charger..
2009-02-07 .Great idea.
2009-02-07 .At least for my cellphone, I will only get one that charges with a USB interface. I love my Nokia, but it's doubtful if I'll get another Nokia to replace it without a USB charger..
2009-02-07 .Nokia phones in general need to switch to USB. Their accessory connector and power plug setup is particularly frustrating.
I can understand Jabra using an even smaller USB connector for their Bluetooth headsets in the interest of space and weight, but distinguishing the connector from a regular mini-USB at night while charging everything is a hassle..
2009-02-07 .It's funny how small gadget become less portable when you are on the move for a few days and have to care for those damn chargers..
2009-02-07 .About damn time....
2009-02-07 .Why don't we have green plug already? Enough stalling, lets start adopting it now! This will become part of my purchasing decision criteria so early adopters will have an advantage..
2009-02-07 .One plug to rule them all!.
2009-02-07 .Every new cell phone needs a new adapter for both home and car. Extremely irritating and expensive..
2009-02-07 .Bring it!~.
2009-02-07 .Make the Universal in USB mean it!.
2009-02-07 .One plug to rule them all!.
2009-02-07 .With all of our infrastructure projects failing to beat out our increasing demand the only way to get ahead of the demand is to increase efficiency. Green Plug is a good first step towards that goal..
2009-02-07 .The time and energy that it takes to create a presentable situation out of the plethora of dangling wires and cables around the desk and computer station in our home is absurd. In addition, the financial and environmental waste is seriously bad. If certain companies got onboard with Green Plug, it would be a major selling point for me and my family..
2009-02-07 .Batteries are globally standardized! Why not powerplugs? .
2009-02-07 .This is insane. It's just a waste of our money and kills interoperability..
2009-02-07 .Great idea. We definitely should have this..
2009-02-07 .Why don't you just concentrate on making better quality products than penalizing the consumer with the absolute absurdity of power supplies unique to the brand.
How many valuable hours are wasted world wide on having to find the right power supply.
This is a perfect example of design not answering the needs of the consumer.
I have always thought power supplies were a joke.
It's like having a ford car battery. Are you kidding me..
2009-02-07 .Wow. Imagine going on a trip with only ONE charger, instead of a whole pile. If GreenPlug becomes reality, I will spend my money there. Get a clue..
2009-02-07 .Great idea, people want this!!!.
2009-02-07 .Does milking the money from consumers by making them buy overpriced chargers really matter more than the environment? We are preached at constantly to go green, yet how much can we do if the people we buy from refuse to help?.
2009-02-07 .Please ... and thank you!.
2009-02-07 .My chargers often weigh more that the devices they're for. If I travel with my audio player, laptop, camera and phone and they all need separate chargers... .
2009-02-07 .This would be a god send. I fly about 100,000 miles a year and having to carry different put supplies with different plugs is a real pain. One supply with one set of plug adapters would be wonderful..
2009-02-07 .The electonics companies are complaining that this would put a wedge in the market of after market replacement power supplies for devices and it would cost most to add this. What they fail to realize is standardizing these power supplies means they can still charge the same amount for their devices, but instead do NOT supply a power adapter. This means they give a voucher to purcahse a Green Plug. If that one dies, the user will need a new one...this time they purchase it WITHOUT the discount voucher. This way, makes OUR lives easier, and doesn't affect the market of the replacement power supplies. Pretty basic and simple solution if you ask me..
2009-02-07 .I will be far more likely to buy a product from any company that supports universal power supplies. I am so tired of having 20 power cables around but never the right one when I need it. Please follow the lead of USB devices..
2009-02-07 .So many power adapters... Every single one is threat to my activity. It takes time to get a replacement and I cannot afford to stop my digital life and work. Proprietary power adapters are far more risky than viruses to me..
2009-02-07 .One universal plug is one of the greatest ideas I've heard of. I am truly amazed that there isn't one standard for plugs..
2009-02-07 .This is a long overdue solution to an everlasting problem..
2009-02-07 .The expense or difficulty of obtaining replacement chargers is
one of the main reasons so many devices end up on the scrap heap - this MUST change!.
2009-02-07 .Please help us manage our plugs by using the Green Plug standard where possible.
Thank you.
2009-02-07 .Universal power supplies could reduce consumer e-waste substantially. Each electronic devise sold would not need to have a power supply provided and could be sold separately due to the fact no one uses all their electronics at the same time and there are many idle power supplies around especially for cell phones. I have waited years for this as each person designing their own power supply is a waste of time and money..
2009-02-07 .proprietary is expensive, limits my choices and confusing to say teh least.
2009-02-07 .This is such an obvious idea, it has to happen! Otherwise it's like having every car brand requiring its own kind of fuel..
2009-02-07 .I read through most of the comments from consumers, but didn't see anyone mentioning the problem of putting several bulky chargers on a PowerBar. You usually end up utilizing only every second of the receptables. If the chargers were standardized, then one built-in charger on the powerbar could have several low-voltage outlets.
BBC.
2009-02-07 .There should also be technology which turns off the wall warts when they are not charging..
2009-02-07 .Please make one type of power source and plug for all equipment. Think of the children..
2009-02-07 .It is about time these plugs became standardized. I am quite happy that USB came out and eliminated some of this, now it is time to condense it all down to hopefully one..
2009-02-07 .I am really tired of all these adampters and different plugs I have to carry especially when travelling, and I travel alot. Too much wire man for one purpose.
2009-02-07 .It is shamefully wastefull not to pursue this. It not only standardizes the external power supplies but could be extended into internal components and possibly batteries. The world we leave our children needs this type of thinking..
2009-02-07 .It's an obvious solution to say goodbye to the adapter hell for ever. And, apart from the enviromental, and economical benefits, with more and more electric devicec becomint the part of our daily routine, it would be just so practical..
2009-02-07 .This is long overdue and its lack of support demonstrates that manufacturers really are intentionally designing their products with builtin design deficiencies that allow them to extract even more money from consumers.
Where is the outrage on this?.
2009-02-07 .Palm and their new product, the Palm Pre, seem lately to be caring a lot for what the customer wants. They must do it, in order to save the company. Even that the Green Plug would cut into their profits for replacemsnt wallwarts they might be willing to do it to win Apple's customers. Apple on the other hand seem to have defined a niche market of dump customers that dont care to be ripped off for a $70 replacement battery an in the same way will never implement the Green Plug..
2009-02-07 .It's so silly that all these different power adapter types exist - there's no reason that we can't have a universal set-up, other than companies wanting to bleed more money out of us during a time when we don't have any to give.
Make power easy!.
2009-02-07 .Having a power supply die on you frequently makes that device useless, especially if it has a custom plug. It would be nice if their was an open industry standard so they can be made interchangeable, so that way we won't have to freak when our DC adapter fails on us..
2009-02-07 .I'd pay the additional cost. I'll buy my next XXXX (see list) only from a mfg that uses a std green plug.
.
2009-02-07 .I have a box of around 30-40 old power adapters, yet every new device seems to need a different one. This is clearly insanity. Every device with a power requirement in the possible range should have a standardised power/recharge interface. Preferably using one of those plug-free (inductive?) connections..
2009-02-07 .Maker of my laptop : Asus.
2009-02-07 .My outlets are filled with power supplies ... and I have to carry multiple power supplies when I travel. It's nuts. .
2009-02-07 .Laptops, Cameras, mobiles, and video cameras go with me all the time, sometimes all at once, wouldn't it be nice if they all plugged and charged from just one adapter, or when they were done charging, actually stopped wasting power!.
2009-02-07 .We have multiple phones and a GPS and our kitchen counter looks ridiculous with all the different power supplies we need. And our cordless drill needs to always be plugged in so its ready for use, just sucking up electricity. As soon as this green plug starts coming out in actual devices, it will definitely affect my buying decision..
2009-02-07 .This is a great idea, not simply from an environmental standpoint but also a practical one. It would be a shame for this fail due to the profiteering ambitions of big business..
2009-02-07 .this is a dooable project, imagine 5 years from now having a standard...Where is all the green outcry when you need it !!!.
2009-02-07 .It's about time the electronics industry gets its act together. I've got a drawer of at least 20 old wall warts I'm afraid to throw away because I might need them as replacements. It's just crazy to think about producing a unique power supply for each device. I'm willing to pay more for the device if it used a standard power adapter. .
2009-02-07 .This single product feature will absolutely drive my purchase decisions in the future. Companies that get on board now will win my business and loyalty..
2009-02-07 .I'm not a fan of government intervention, but in this case the manufacturers are just being idiots. I own a box full of obsolete power bricks and can't bring myself to throw them in the garbage. Someday I'll dump them in a booth at CES or other trade show. Maybe we should all do that next year... .
2009-02-07 .get it done already!.
2009-02-07 .We have an overabundance of incompatible AC adapters in an industry that is attempting to build a 'green' image. Switching to a universal smart adapter is as green as it gets. Saves on physical material, saves on energy. So do it - from now on I'll be looking for universal adapter compliance when I do my gadget shopping.
cj.
2009-02-07 .This is an excellent idea, and companies who support it show that they care more about the user experience than sticking consumers with expensive accessory options..
2009-02-07 .This should be a no brainer. Get rid of all of all the cords, reduce power waste when people leave them plugged in even when not in use..
2009-02-07 .This is a fantastic idea. Certainly with today's technology someone can figure this out! .
2009-02-07 .Companies need to shut up and implement this. It's about time! .
2009-02-07 .I've been waiting for this for years. What's taking so long?.
2009-02-07 .This technology rocks. Lets make it happen.
2009-02-07 .Having a single charger for all the devices I own would be great: mainly due to space, weight, and annoyance saving on trips. I did not know there was a group that was pushing for this. Hopefully you will succeed! Good luck!.
2009-02-07 .The space under my desk is covered with Power Supply Units, each one connected with a different plug. This is unacceptable in 2009!.
2009-02-07 .I want one charger to rule them all!.
2009-02-07 .In addition to all the hassle with numerous wall warts, the wall warts do NOT indicate what device they charge..
2009-02-07 .I expect to be upgrading my family's cell phones in the near future. Availability of a Green Plug could likely determine which maker's product I choose..
2009-02-07 .needs to be done - it is a customer service issue.
2009-02-07 .Fantastic idea! Please standardize this stuff. I would go out of my way and pay more for devices that provide this extra feature. .
2009-02-07 .It would be great to get rid of all the additional AC plugs I have cluttering up my room at the moment. It would also be nice to prevent manufacturers from creating a separate adapter for every device that they make. I have had phones that were an updated model of another whose AC adapter did not work with them because the manufacturer made them incompatible..
2009-02-07 .I want a universal adapter and I'd want all my devices to support it. In fact, I'd like the universal adapter right in my wall, essentially replacing my AC adapter..
2009-02-07 .I would love to see universal power adapters tech life would be simpler .
2009-02-07 .When I travel I carry almost 5kg just of bloody wall warts. They practically never get used at the same time. Most people seem to be able to work with one type of AA battery, why not one type of charger?!?.
2009-02-07 .This is brilliant!.
2009-02-07 .xbox, pcs,tvs and dvrs could use such tech as well as common kitchen items like a coffeemaker. they arent battery powered but definately use phantom power for no obvious reason..
2009-02-07 .I hope this is not too rational for success..
2009-02-07 .We have MANY electronic devices throughout the house. It is very frustrating that there are a dozen or so wall warts of different sizes and voltages. We do have 3 Verizon phones that use USB works great! We also have one Bluetooth wireless stereo headset that uses USB - unfortunately, it's wall wart wont work with the phones...
Let's fix this! We have PoE (and soon Poe+) for network devices, why not the same sort of thing for low-power devices!?
Chuck Stickelman
.
2009-02-07 .When I purchase a phone, I really am not looking at how well they build the power adapter. I CARE ABOUT THE PHONE. If the electronic equipment manufacturers had been designing cars instead, each make of car would have a different method of driving the car; steering wheels, joysticks, tank controls, whatever. Standardize!.
2009-02-07 .Get this done already! Along with spending billions to create Green Energy, the Obama team needs to tax companies that don't take care of the existing power....
2009-02-07 .Green plug is the answer we all have been waiting for. Don't delay, make this dream come true today!.
2009-02-07 .Great idea.
2009-02-07 .This is a great idea and long overdue..
2009-02-07 .The idea is very cool.
2009-02-07 .Got two devices with usb and it is great!.
2009-02-07 .I truly agree with the concept of one power supply for all devices. When I travel I have to bring at least 5 power supplies with me. I hate it and it is a pain in the BUT being kept hostage by every tTom dick and Harry device manufacturer and their power supplies and chargers. I believe that the device manufacturers are too short sighted on this issue. They tend to think that their device is the only device out there. Seriously even devices made by the same manufacturer need different chargers. Even they have no concept of this concept. If they made the universal power supply they could give us the consumer the choice to purchase the device with or without the supply. Less devices and less going into land fills in the end. I probably have 12 power supplies hanging around because of devices I no longer have or use. .
2009-02-07 .It's about time this happens!.
2009-02-07 .I have a million power adapters everywhere, lose one and the manufacturer wants $$$ to replace it. Buy a cheap knockoff and risk destroying your electronics, horrible situation!
I always try to buy electronics with standard USB plugs (ie motorola phones, xv6800, etc).
2009-02-07 .Ditto - gets my vote - sick of my 1000 power adapters.
2009-02-07 .This is simple, cheaper in the end and makes sense from an environmental standpoint..
2009-02-07 .It's about time this kind of thing was developed! Save waste, save clutter, save money, save the environment..
2009-02-07 .Ok guys,
Here's the deal I would buy stuff even if it's priced a little higher that includes this technology.. why?, well
1. To Finally tame my multiple charger's tangled cables (make my studio organized)
2. I really could take my devices with me without buying a briefcase that carries devices plus chargers for all the equipment making it all "really" portable.
3. I would pay for a charger station that provides multiple outlets for all my devices and doesn't look as a 19th century contraption.
4. Cars can be standard equipped with these connectors too opening up another platform where electronic gadgets are usually off limits
C'mon guys you know you want an standard connector too..
Help the economy, help the people.. sleep well at night
I know you'll do the right thing.
2009-02-07 .Hasn't history already shown that standardization leads to more adoption?
Why is it necessary for me to carry around 5 plugs when I travel? And when I go overseas, it just becomes a bigger headache.
Manufacturers, not adopting a standard essentially tells me that the you care for nothing except your profit. I will always choose manufacturers who focus on their customers experience; they seem to be quite profitable as well. Perhaps its because people want their products?.
2009-02-07 .And worst of all are those transformers that take up 3 slots of space on a power board.
2009-02-07 .Come-on Mfg's start leading the way to Green Plug Tech. It is a no brainer. Good for the earth, good to save our resources and of course good for your company if you lead the way and market that leadership. Think of the fuel that we would not have to buy from the middle east if everyone adopted this!.
2009-02-07 .universal power supplies for cell phones would be awesome..
2009-02-07 .The green plug is a fantastic idea, and would obviously benefit consumers, the environment, and society in general. I really hope this idea will catch on quickly..
2009-02-06 .I travel a lot. I carry an ENTIRE BAG of wall warts; to power phones, cameras, mp3 players, etc. each one with its own plug. THIS IS ABSURD!!!! Most deliver between 3 and 5 volts and around 1 amp..
2009-02-06 .Why do I have to cart around so many different adapters when I'm travelling? If I forget one I'm snookered. Give me one adapter that works for everything!.
2009-02-06 .It's well past time to have these things standardized and made "green" so they shut down when they're not actually *doing* something. It's the responsible thing to do, and it just makes engineering sense..
2009-02-06 .I think the power monitoring/saving capability of this device is so important, knowing the large amount of power wasted by electronic devices now. The simplicity and practicality on the consumer end is a huge bonus!.
2009-02-06 .This is a great idea. I know it will not be popular with manufactures because they make a profit ripping off people on replacement power supplies. I would gladly purchase new items solely on there ability to have an interchangeably cords. BTW get some more web servers, this site is slow as hell. You will get more people on it..
2009-02-06 .If only....
2009-02-06 .I really think that there should be something more simpler. Why can't we just become green... Saving the world, couldn't be simpler..
2009-02-06 .I think government should allow manufacturer use any adapter they want but establish steep tax/penalty/premium for those which choose to use the non standard one, since it contribute to waste and prohibits interoperability..
2009-02-06 .this is a great idea.
2009-02-06 .Less cable, less clutter, less fuss..
2009-02-06 .Brilliant idea..
2009-02-06 .Easy, cheap--a no-brainer. Stop ripping us off with over-priced chargers and use a technology that makes common sense..
2009-02-06 .DO THIS!.
2009-02-06 .It just makes sense. These manufacturers should be making their money by designing better devices, not by holding our devices hostage until we pony up big money for expensive, cumbersome replacement adapters..
2009-02-06 .This is a wonderful idea. I would jump at products that support this..
2009-02-06 .Eventually everyone will save on this proposal.
2009-02-06 .It would be nice to be able to get rid of vampire power, and reduce the ridiculous number of plugs and converters required around the house.
I find them in drawers and cupboards, and I can't tell what device it's for (as they are rarely labeled), so I am afraid to recycle it just in case.
This is an idea who's time is long overdue..
2009-02-06 .Most of those devices use the same voltage & current, let us do something that makes sense for the environment, not just for Big Corp pockets.
2009-02-06 .Only one thing to carry around, could use a friends cord if you forget your own, and causes less waste when people throw out their phones..
2009-02-06 .I think this is a very good idea and that manufacturers should embrace it instead of shutting it out..
2009-02-06 .The number of different AC/DC adapters I have for devices is ridiculous. It is hugely wasteful and inefficient. We have standards for batteries. We have standards for interconnects between many electronic devices. Why not a standard for DC powered electronics? It seems so obvious that it is surprising that it doesn't already exist. Besides being more economically and environmentally friendly, it should also more convenient for consumers who have a clutter of different adapters for different devices.
And it will save people money on their utility bill.
What else could make it more compelling? Just make it happen..
2009-02-06 .I believe:
a) you should just build this anyway, undercut the manufacturers, and help improve the environment.
b) (off-topic) speed up your web site.
2009-02-06 .I think that of all the obsurd ideass the government is backing as part of this 'stimulus' this is a no-brainer, who knows how much energy we waste with the billions of power wasting plugs already in service. Plus I cannot stand that I have 8 running around in a mess on the kitchenen counter..
2009-02-06 .A big chunk of my carry on bag is always full of the various chargers and power adapters that I need to get through any vacation. Why this hasn't happen yet is beyond me. Let's through the bottom line out the window and do something smart for once..
2009-02-06 .I think this is a great idea! Universal DC power adapters are LONG overdue..
2009-02-06 .For a better future!.
2009-02-06 .Having a single adapter would prevent me from having to use power strips to have enough outlets to plug in my various electronics.
I think the plug should use apple's "break-away" technology for the connection point so that electronics don't get dragged to the floor when someone trips over the cord..
2009-02-06 .If I have one adapter for all these devices, my luggage would be a couple of pounds lighter!!! :D It might even solve some peoples chronic back problems (maybe Chiropractors will start lobbying for the manufacturers) ;).
2009-02-06 .Please please please, as a traveler, this is huge and it WILL affect what I buy..
2009-02-06 .Traveling with more than a couple of electronic devices is a bear since each one comes with its own power supply and cables. If available the use of GreenPlug would be a major factor for me in deciding between competing products..
2009-02-06 .waaay overdue..
2009-02-06 .I am so sick of having so many different types of power cable, especially when it is not easy to determine which device it is for..
2009-02-06 .I'm tired of having 4 different types of chargers especially when I travel. Usb charging makes a lot more sense. .
2009-02-06 .And making standard sizes and connectors of batteries would reduce prices for all..
2009-02-06 .If the USA can have one standard for AC power outlets, why can't we have one standard for our portable devices?.
2009-02-06 .Compatibility with a standard power adapter would be a significant factor in my buying decisions.
Not getting on board is just pure greed from the manufacturers. It is typical of the electronics industry: they say "interoperability", but to do everything possible to ensure lock-in. .
2009-02-06 .I think we should use our resources as responsibly as possible..
2009-02-06 .Please!.
2009-02-06 .It's real simple -- I will PURCHASE only devices that support a universal power supply after the first one or two are released..
2009-02-06 .It's an extension of the power supply standardisation which happened in the UK during the early 1900's.
It's positive thinking, and i'd like it to succeed - if some big electronics companies can get behind the idea it will gradually achieve more traction.
We're still lacking standardised plugging, amp and wattage throughout the world though, so maybe this is something of a bigger picture to tackle..
2009-02-06 .I think this is an excellent idea and wish you the best of luck..
2009-02-06 .Its absolutely ridiculous that we don't have something like this already the only reason we don't is greed. Plain and simple. I hope these manufacturers can do the right thing and put the environment before the own selfish desires .
2009-02-06 .I want to light my cigarette with one of these. Power Tools !? .
2009-02-06 .It's unfair the consumers should suffer at the hands of power plug makers if they break or lose their plug. The electronics industry wants to line their pockets any way they can by squeezing consumers of their hard-earned money. It's about time someone stepped up to them and said "NO MORE!".
2009-02-06 .great idea.
2009-02-06 .Someday, a vendor or group of vendors will let me stop wasting my power. When that day comes, I'll vote with my dollars..
2009-02-06 .I'm all for this proposal, it will make life much easier for everyone who has small electronic devices like cellphones and mp3 players. Why didn't they think of this before?.
2009-02-06 .Why do we need to have so much waste in our country? One cord for several mobile/electronic devices could save on so much.
2009-02-06 .If my phone shared a power cord with my headset it wouldn't suck..
2009-02-06 .I'm ready to boycott consumer goods that are wasteful and annoying. Make non-proprietary stuff that "just works"!.
2009-02-06 .Great idea, but if the implementation is anything as slow and frustrating as the website ... this is a non-starter..
2009-02-06 .IT would be so ideal to have just 1 charger for all these devices. .
2009-02-06 .I want things easy to support in the field. One less wall wart is one less item on the checklist..
2009-02-06 .Please, don't use Green Plug and separate power and data for my mobile phone. I like them together..
2009-02-06 .What? I wont have anything to decorate the whole wall where I hang a gaggle of chargers!!.
2009-02-06 .I think that the environment cannot tolerate such inefficiencies as every device needing a power chord, transformer, plastic, wire and all the rest. Having to purchase one plug for all devices seems much more economically and environmentally sound. Clearly, the cost to manufacture ($) is low, and the payoff from propriotization (sp) is high. IF some manufacturers started implementing this green plug, more would be compelled to join as it would be a "feature" movement. I think that the federal government must provide some means of incentivizing this technology. Perhaps it could be tied to the "smart grid"?
Sam.
2009-02-06 .I hate specialized power cords. I would buy a device that used an industry standard cord every time if there was such an alternative..
2009-02-06 .Way overdue. I've been wondering why they didn't have universal power plugs for years..
2009-02-06 .I love the idea, but only if GreenPlug releases the IP rights for making the chips to third party manufacturers. Otherwise, they're just trying to gain a monopoly by "standardizing" the market on their proprietary technology..
2009-02-06 .The glove compartment in my car is a bowl-o-spaghetti of different adapters and wires to charge my devices. .
2009-02-06 .As a user, I want convenience and value. Being able to charge all my devices using the same charger/cord is valuable.
I make it a point to boycott companies with obstructionist or unethical practices. I haven't been to Walmart, Best Buy, or McDonald's in years.
I'm willing to apply this same boycott policy to organizations that stand in the way of an awesome product..
2009-02-06 .Yup, I got a drawer-full of good ones and bad ones (power adapters) just like everyone else. Considering the e-waste that we generate, it is unconscionable for device makers to continue to ignore such a common-sensical solution: universal plugs = more convenience and less waste..
2009-02-06 .It would be great to charge the phone or laptop anywhere!.
2009-02-06 .i'd also like an "add on" so that power adaptors to older powerbooks would work with the new ones.
If apple doesn't make them perhaps a third party can. Alternatively a single power adaptor with different outlets.
2009-02-06 .Long overdue! I too will vote with my wallet and preferentially purchase green plug devices!.
2009-02-06 .It would be REALLY nice to not have to carry around 5 or more adapters when traveling. Also we would not be wasting materials building so many different types of adapters!.
2009-02-06 .Like all things environmetally-related, this is way overdue - and so simple to do, yet companies are more concerned about wringing every last cent from us than do something right for a change. Do the right thing - tout this feature, and differentiate your product(s) from another company that doesn't!.
2009-02-06 .Why can't we just have a standard. We have standards for everything else.
2009-02-06 .A universal power cord would be great. Right now, I have to unplug my cell phone charger and external HD cord because they emit a high pitched squeal. A cord that could power any devices and was smart enough to stop flow when it's not needed would be great..
2009-02-06 .Standards benefit everyone..
2009-02-06 .This is the kind of standardization that really benefits people's lives..
2009-02-06 .My desk is so cluttered with different power supplies for various different products, there's no space for me to actually use the devices I have !!.
2009-02-06 .It is a sad and shameful practice to refuse standardization of power adapters. Imagine the resource savings, both electrical and materials that can be realized by such a simple and elementary innovation. For shame big corps inc. For shame..
2009-02-06 .Good lord, this is so long overdue. Do manufacturers really think that my needing to cart around EIGHT AC adapters encourages me to buy more new devices? WRONG. If I new I could charge my new toy with any old power adapter I already had, that would go a decent ways towards making my purchasing decision easier. And they really don't get that they could make there products cheaper by leaving out the AC adapter altogether? (Because I already have two or three of them.).
2009-02-06 .I think one plug/power type for the world is a great idea whose time has come..
2009-02-06 .This is a great idea that's long overdue. Do the right thing and make this happen..
2009-02-06 .Carting so many power adapters around is a right royal pain. Even when you move from one model to another from the same supplier, you get a different power adapter. Crazy. What a waste..
2009-02-06 .Come on people! Do the right thing! Do we need a law to standardize power adapters?.
2009-02-06 .It's an awesome idea and one that I would like to see implemented promptly..
2009-02-06 . (TO MANUFACTURERS): At least have a standard computer cord interface for integrated PSUs....
2009-02-06 .Yes, the manufacturers don't want this obviously good thing. So, this is a prime example of a situation where government involvement is good. .
2009-02-06 .I travel extensively for film and tv work. My standard luggage has to include almost an entire actual bag *just* with chargers and cables. I end up having to do a device by device check to verify that 2 charging cables are included for each. Green Plug would cut down on the logistics by more than half, and let me carry *more* useful gear like lenses and less crap!.
2009-02-06 .Due to the variety of products I use I now only consider buying those which can use USB for charging! .
2009-02-06 .This is a great way to make it easier for consumers to use your products and help out the environment at a marginal cost to manufacturers. You need to stop being short-sighted and become more pro-consumer/environment..
2009-02-06 .I agree that this is a great way to get thing standardised. Big companies who are afraid of losing some money from their power adapter sales instead of wishing for the best for their customers can hit the road..
2009-02-06 .Genius idea that my family and I have been saying needs to be done for years now. Too long have consumers felt the pain of first-party "specialty" cables. Just imagine having two or three power cables to charge six or seven devices... less clutter, less headache and better consumer savings. This is brilliant..
2009-02-06 .I wish all these devices used the same power connector. But the laptop uses a barrel connector, so too does the camcorder and external HD. But they're all different sizes. The iPod and Tom-Tom both use USB with the exception that the iPod uses a non-standard connector.
I have about 2 or 3 lbs. of chargers in my backpack because of this stupidity. .
2009-02-06 .Please replace all this landfill garbage I get with each new technology product..
2009-02-06 .I have always found it absurdly wasteful and environmentally harmful that everytime I am forced to replace my phone I also have to burden the world with the production of another recharger. Why oh why can there not be just one standard, for the good of my sanity and the world?.
2009-02-06 .Please please PLEASE create a standard power adapter. Either Mini-USB or the magnetic Apple adapter (well, not Apple's per se)..
2009-02-06 .Having lived in 3 countries in the past 5 years I now have a box full of useless transformers and I still never seem to have the right one when I need a spare. I'd love this! .
2009-02-06 .Why not be compatible with the USB connector, which is available in really tiny sizes?
Phone makers (and others) aren't going to want a connector the *just* charges the phone..
2009-02-06 .It would be great for all these items to have the same plug in. The world needs a standardized system! Ask anyone who's ever done plumbing in their house and they'll say the same thing. Diversity isn't key if you want to sell a product. I'll buy a new faucet before I try and track down the manufacture for new parts for it. Same thing.
2009-02-06 .I'm seriously tired of all the cords and cables. We have wireless internet finally. Tesla would have gave us wireless power. But I'll settle for a univeral power cord. Down with the profiteering. I'd pay 200$ for a gadget that would charge my phone, laptop, mp3 player, etc.
2009-02-06 .it would be an excellent choice for the tech savy people, one plug one cord, less mess, less trouble, best choice :).
2009-02-06 .It is time that we have *one* standard DC power supply. We have reasonably standard AC across the world, so why are we messing around with multitudes of AC-DC converters? Standard AC-DC. Period.
.
2009-02-06 .UNIFY! .
2009-02-06 .My adaptor brokedown. My laptop was still under warranty so Apple prompty replaced it. This would have been unnecessary if another (universal) adaptor in the house could have been used. Manufacturers could start charging extra for an adaptor and this would help the environment. Companies can still make money by selling 'universal' adaptors. Ditto for phones. Governments should enforce legislation to enforce a 'single plug' standard..
2009-02-06 .I am blown away at the number of different adapters I own, I have to mark them, so that if they get disconnected from the device I can actually find what it belongs to. I hate it.
2009-02-06 .Manufactures are not supporting this on purpose, so they can jack people off by chairing $100 for a $20 adapter. They are totally irresponsible..
2009-02-05 .I think this is a great idea, both as a technological solution and a green solution. Should replace all other chargers. Good luck.
2009-02-05 .Help! It drives me crazy - the amount of power 'crap' I have to take on the road with me. And it's a given that I'll forget one of something. Solve the problem - you'd make me a very happy traveler..
2009-02-05 .Excellent idea, long overdue.
2009-02-04 .It would be a pleasure to have only one cord for all devices. The waste of energy is terrible and if greenplug helps...terrific..
2009-02-04 .This is a no brainer. C'mon, we need to make this happen..
2009-02-04 .I could have used 10 more device fields EASILY.
I have a juicepack for my iPhone 3G and part of the reason why is so I can use all my mini-usb chargers with it. Want this on ALL my devices. Now..
2009-02-04 .No more wall warts please! Power strip outlets always get covered up and proprietary shapes and sizes never work with each other. Arrgghh!.
2009-02-04 .It's gotta be done. It's gonna be done. This may be too high-tech a "solution", but at least it gives someone a financial interest to pursue a universal low power DC source. .
2009-02-04 .GreenPlug is a great idea! why can't I travel with one plug. Saving money on wasted trickle charging from current plugs is another bonus!.
2009-02-04 .Let's start stopping global warming and better allocate our limited resources on creative solution - I want my green plug! .
2009-02-03 .I want my green plug now! Best of luck getting this to happen, it's long overdue. .
2009-02-03 .It's ABOUT TIME! I hope manufacturers get on board with this and quick..
2009-02-03 .It is crucial that there is a unified power standard for DC devices, if not for the reduced waste, then at least for the comfort..
2009-01-30 .For the travel & storage convenience alone I would pay a significant premium for a universal charger. Reducing energy consumption and electronic waste makes it even better!.
2009-01-28 .I have wasted so much time today trying to locate an adapter for my device and I have a mountian of adapters which are stored in a large suitcase. It's a nightmare and to have one for all would be marvellous.
2009-01-27 .About time. Too many wall (device specific) xformers already. Too much waste.
Suggest a new standard device side connetcor: half moon shaped to allow for immediate proper orientation - even for those with poor sight..
2009-01-27 .This idea is great, not only for cutting down power used but less adaptors to buy and dispose of when device wears out. Now if the price is not way out of line. One of problems with green is so much is so expensive.
2009-01-27 .great idea. I think i've dream about it long time ago but it was just a dream for me and you want to realize it.
Good luck!.
2009-01-27 .Great idea to change the World. this is idea is responsible ecology!.
2009-01-25 .Best idea since electricity !....when is thislgoing to hit uk/europe as a viable product .
2009-01-25 .I think it's very important and could stop the hassle of the current power model, plus is green and easier for everybody, nobody is losing in this revolution. (yes we can call it like that) btw yes wec can !!!.
2009-01-25 .Make our lives and planet better !.
2009-01-24 .Anything we can do free ourselves from dependence on foreign oil is necessary and must be done in the next two years..
2009-01-23 .I couldn't agree more. This is something that has bugged me for a long time.......it's about time..
2009-01-23 .Hope something sensible like this beats the new silly wireless power fad. If not, make a wireless-power to greenplug module. But don't encourage them unless it's too late..
2009-01-22 .I want to use String and ribbon LED's in my home and workplace but each string must be current limited. LVT wires can pass through walls and be embedded into drywall to takeoff points can be almost anywhere. Lets get these technologies to work together. Good for you for trying!.
2009-01-22 .I think this new piece of technology allows endless possibilities to companies and also consumers. It also saves lots of power that is otherwise wasted. In addition, it frees up the space on top and under your desk..
2009-01-21 .Great Idea!.
2009-01-21 .I want efficient power for my cable modem, wireless router, voip bridge, etc..
2009-01-20 .This is something I've been wanting for ages. Whatever products support this idea will influence my purchasing decision..
2009-01-20 .End to corded madness!.
2009-01-19 .I just came across this and I believe it is an awesome idea. .
2009-01-19 .It is a good idea to have one universal plug or one plug for multiple devices..
2009-01-19 .Love this idea. .
2009-01-19 .Read about this on the O'Reilly blog. A great initiative!.
2009-01-18 .I am sick and tired of bringing 5 heavy power bricks with me when I travel, especially when airlines are limiting my luggage weight now! I want my GREEN PLUG!!!.
2009-01-18 .We need to get manufacturers to act in order to stop huge power consumptions while not diminishing out new modern tech lifesyles, all for saving this earth,.
2009-01-17 .I think this a great option for your power needs.
2009-01-17 .this is great.
2009-01-14 .When will you bring sanity to the world?.
2009-01-14 .Let's get it done. These cords and plugs are filling my bag..
2009-01-14 .Want one green plug strip instead of a bunch of bulky wasteful wall warts..
2009-01-14 .I think it is a great idea.
2009-01-14 .please!.
2009-01-13 .Universal power adapters would be one of the greatest manufacturing achivements of modern times..
2009-01-12 .Also something to charge NiMH batteries. .
2009-01-12 .this is a great idea and green.
2009-01-12 .I think this is an idea that should have come years ago. I wish the people that had developed this technology were on the ground floor of consumer eltronics years ago because it never made sense to have multiple power adapters for devices that used the same power. I hope this catches on quickly..
2009-01-12 .Please untangle us & be green!!.
2009-01-11 .Why didn't someone think of this before? I would be 100% in support of a truly "universal" power supply solution for all DC powered devices..
2009-01-11 .I will purchase the product from any maker that leads the way in this Green Plug concept..
2009-01-10 .I think this the answer to my prayers! even though i'm a teenager, i am somewhat of a "gadget geek" but i still want to be green! i am so excited to replace my power strip with the greenplug! thank you!!.
2009-01-10 .what a great idea!.
2009-01-10 .Just one universal power adaptor!!!.
2009-01-10 .I do not have a place to keep all the chargers I have. I have had to label each one, or I would not know what they are for..
2009-01-09 .The charger should have a mini usb plug at the deice and a standard usb plug on the other end which could be connected to a wall plug adapter, to a cigarette lidgher adapter or a USB plug- let say a laptop or a solar charger- serving as a data cable as well. In this way any device could be chraged with a three vomponent system at any situation..
2009-01-09 .i don't want to take always 5-6 adapters with me.
2009-01-09 .laptop: MSI.
2009-01-09 .it simpel.
2009-01-09 .Please, make our life easier and save natural resources by creating and selling universal chargers!.
2009-01-09 .This is a great idea finally ! I have always been longing for this but if this can also be justified using ecological reasons, this is great ! In addition, the clever charging is a plus that will extend battery life. Your poll should be posted on most of the website dealing with computers, electronic devices and multimedia to get a huge feedback !.
2009-01-09 .most definitely a green idea! .
2009-01-09 .I think this is a great and neccesary movement and hopefully it will become a reality..
2009-01-09 .I have to travel a lot for the military and every little bit you don't have to lug around helps. It would also help reduce the production cost of portable electronics if you don't have to include a charger. Finally, it's less messy around the house. What's the downside?.
2009-01-09 .I am sick of wasting energy when my devices are finished charging. Plus anytime i get a new cell phone, i end up with yet another charging cord. Please stop this waste!.
2009-01-09 .It gets more ridiculous everyday. Even manufacturers like IBM shift their power supplies between some models! They can figure out to build amazing technology, but can't figure out a power cable! Ridiculous!.
2009-01-09 .Great idea, what's been the delay :-).
2009-01-09 .I'd love to have this kind of plug because it is more environmentally friendly and more technologically sound. We are now in the wireless age, and that includes not having to lug around power adapters for a dozen rechargeable devices..
2009-01-09 .I hope to see this initiative leads to standards..
2009-01-09 .I've got a boxfull of useless adapters at home and I don't want a single new one..
2009-01-09 .We need to go green and i want my dam green plug!.
2009-01-09 .An awesome idea, long overdue. Just don't forget about Linux folk..
2009-01-09 .If the Green Plug can really work with all/most of the products I use, I would absolutely buy one..
2009-01-09 .I'm constantly having to find different adapters; having one would be a nice change..
2009-01-09 .can't wait to see it in action!.
2009-01-09 .One bleeping standard PLEASE... or a low voltage WORLD WIDE plug and play system. One planet, one plug..
2009-01-09 .I have gone through a number of cell phones that all have different chargers. One type would be so helpful. I also have had a number of HP laptops that did not work after a month or two and have accidentally a few plugs to get rid of..
2009-01-08 .How about items that are plugged in to stop power flow when not in us. Stereo, VCR, DVD, Phono, and Speakers, erc..
2009-01-08 .I think green plugs would be GREAT! Right now I have three plugs laying around and I have no clue what they belong to, except old power tools. I don't know what to do with them..
2009-01-08 .Even a universal adapter PER MAKER would be better than nothing. To have to have a new one -- usually purchased separately -- each time you buy a device is so wasteful (ex. cell phones). Thanks!.
2009-01-08 .power adapters are a scheme enacted by manufacturers to force consumers to purchase a new set of adapters for every product upgrade. This is endemic of the wasteful greed of these companies..
2009-01-08 .great idea! When ever I travel it is always a nightmare to remeber to rbing all the right power adapters..
2009-01-08 .I think the Green Plug idea is great & a long time coming, we should embrace it & move towards adopting it. I'm looking forward to devices that have Green Plug. .
2009-01-08 ."Choose a device" function is extremely slow. Would've added more devices but web interface is too slow..
2009-01-08 .Pace & amstrad UK Sat TV tuners use the same power (80W) on standy as in use
But no power to Sat LNB aerial units & on / Off = low reliability
1 plug = good idea but ? input AC voltage & frequency world wide?.
2009-01-07 .waiting for universal adapter....
2009-01-07 .one for all and all for one.
2009-01-07 .Brilliant idea.
I wouldn't want to lose the magsafe option on my macbook, but this could maybe be something on the cable which could be connected to the power unit.
Perhaps have power units that can supply multiple devices... thereby increasing efficiency of supply. Provide different sizes of power unit for portability v power.
Have power unit that can detect if it's not required for use and switch the main transformer off completely. Devices could then communicate with power unit if they require power and turn transformer back on. The less transformers we have doing nothing but keeping themselves ever so slightly warm at night the less power stations we'll need on at night! :).
2009-01-06 .You forgot LEnovo/IBM as Laptop-Maker, Samsung as Printer Maker.
2009-01-06 .Please get this done!.
2009-01-06 .Stop it, please..
2009-01-06 .Make better, longer lasting batteries a priority as well. Especially Apple IPOD .
2009-01-06 .One green plug is GOOD.
2009-01-06 .I don't see flashlights listed - the popular double-AA-cell flashlight could have a recharging port also that is green-plug compatible, it's one way to get into the household..
2009-01-06 .I want an environmentally friendlier way to charge. I want to conserve energy and waste and have ONE charger!.
2009-01-06 .Finally a solution to the energy wasting, dozens of them under your table, wall-wart madness..
2009-01-05 .One plug with multiple inputs. This way you only use one outlet and do not waste electricity because at the other end there is always a device being charged..
2009-01-05 .one of the most important things we can do...there are TOO MANY DIFFERENT PLUGS cluttering landfills as objects break or become obsolete..not interchangeable - i personally have had enough...no connection between mobile connectivity and home appliaance / electronics either.
2009-01-05 .I'm willing to pay more to be able to use a single cable on all my devices..
2009-01-05 .I have a box of adaptors for the plethora of different gadgets that plug into my laptop. It drives me nuts! A universal devise would be wonderful!.
2009-01-05 .Great product!.
2009-01-05 .For quite a number of devices I thin that USB is entirely the right choice, and I hope that will occur more. My Motorola RAZR works that way.
My wife's Nokia phone and my Nokia N800 do not.
.
2009-01-05 .i want to be first in line!.
2009-01-04 .Great idea!.
2009-01-04 .We Need A Green Plug !!!.
2009-01-03 .This is a great idea!!.
2009-01-03 .Putting a stop to phantom energy use is essential. You site is not clear how the elimination of phantom loads vs. the loss of single voltage transformer efficiency balance out...Is it a net 10%, 50%, or 90% savings?
The world needs a net 90% savings!!!!.
2009-01-03 .think it is great and will definitely buy one if price is reasonable.
2009-01-03 .with out growing infatuation and need for gadgets combined with growing concern for the environment we need more companies to be more innovative in making the two things more compatible..
2009-01-02 .Sounds good, but I'd love to see some more concrete information on this site..
2009-01-02 .Yes, please..
2009-01-02 .Too many cables suck!.
2009-01-02 .Only one power device in my luggage? Wow, what a great idea.
.
2009-01-02 .finally! thank you!!.
2009-01-02 .Not only could a universal plug reduce the number of adaptors required at home or while travelling from 8 to 1. Beyond this, we won't need to carry ANY adaptor anymore, for we're gonna find them everywhere: at offices, hotels, cafés, with our friends, maybe even abroad! Is it this? If so, godspeed, greenplug! Matthias, Cologne, Germany.
2009-01-02 .great idea!.
2008-12-31 .the sooner the better.
2008-12-31 .What we have now is ridiculous. There should be a universal "brick." The attachment cords might vary, but all the attachment cords should plug into a single, common brick..
2008-12-31 .anything to both reduce the number of cables and vampires under my desk and dresser and reduce the waste energy in the transformers.
2008-12-31 .I want consistent and reusable power cables and connections. .
2008-12-31 .I can't wait to get my devices on this platform!.
2008-12-30 .It's a ridiculous burden to have to take so many different power adapters with you whenever you travel.
2008-12-30 .Bravo for basing your plug on the already-ubiquitous USB standard. Things would be so much better if only every manufacturer used USB charging cables. Adding "smarts" to the charging system would be even better!.
2008-12-30 .I can't stand it when my cell phone is dead and the charger I can find is for my husband's phone which has a different "hole".
It kills me when I have to get something new and in the recycling of the old items I have to throw out cords and such. All of the metal in those things is being buried in land fills. I expect we will be digging it up again at some point in the future. Let's try to avoid making landfills the new "metal mines"! Universal plugs for all!.
2008-12-30 .I don't want more wall warts! The next step is renewable power supply to the charger, by solar, treadmill, etc..
2008-12-29 .1 power adapters is a dream, but it can be really practical.
2008-12-29 .we really need this - for us and for the planet - thx for initiating this !.
2008-12-29 .This would be a huge help to have. Every family should have one..
2008-12-29 .I cannot believe there are only 2300 or so votes....
2008-12-29 .This is an awesome idea, I wonder if in the future, after this catches on, all devices, including TV's, Desktop Computers, and other larger consumer electronic devices will adopt a beefed-up version of USB for their power needs?.
2008-12-28 .It seems like a NO-brainer - one universal plug that does it all..
2008-12-28 .Way overdue! Lets get the power of the populous behind it and demand it in our products! .
2008-12-27 .It's about time..
2008-12-27 .Outstanding technological advance. How can I buy stock in your company?.
2008-12-27 .This is indeed a good idea. As a field engineer, I am a heavy user for CE gadgets. I was force to bring lots of different adaptor on road while I do on-site services. Hopefully vendors will think about making AC adaptors into an universal source of power just like USB archived. .
2008-12-26 .This is a great idea, one that we as a country should have insisted on twenty years ago. Junking up your house with black wires is bad enough, but nothing is worse than going on vacation and finding you've forgotten a charging cord for some device. Never mind that you remembered three or four others, you still have to have the RIGHT one. I never want to have to buy another emergency power cord again!.
2008-12-26 .the WORLD NEEDS this!.
2008-12-26 .When I go anywhere I have to lug around 5 chargers, I don't really care about the power savings, or being green, I just want to have one charger and use only it. .
2008-12-25 .I'm sick and tired of the huge quantity of power bricks. You can never figure out which one goes with what device if they get separated. Traveling with them sucks. Please fix this..
2008-12-24 .Sounds good to me..
2008-12-24 .I throw away power adapters all the time, and I agree it's stupid. For bonus points, maybe have *one* brick that powers *multiple* DC devices and save me a ton of wall/powerbar space..
2008-12-24 .I want green power EVERYWHERE. .
2008-12-24 .These cords of death are pulling our entire culture to the netherworld and severely limiting options in redesigning 21st Century infrastructure. It is likely Asia will form an advanced order culture first as the Western ethic endlessly toys with antiquated notions of personal attainment of vain ambition by any means even to the detriment and limitation of the entire society..
2008-12-24 .This is really important, really needed.
(Proprietary plugs keep us from having a resilient system of electronics and encourage waste at a grand scale. It's unconscionable.)
Thanks for making this effort..
2008-12-24 .it would be SO NICE to have one lug for everything! SO much better for the environment!.
2008-12-23 .It is definitely time to fix this problem!
Green Plug has a solution and now we just need the manufacturers to be brave enough to use it. If they are, consumers will recognize them for it..
2008-12-23 .I want my GREEN PLUG!!!!! I ofgten travel and I think how much weight and room I save if Green Plug was available today. Life would simplier and I would have less to worry about when packing. Also in these recessionary times, anything I can do to lower my electric bills and power consumption is something I would invest in..
2008-12-23 .not only should we have a single DC power standard but we need to have a switch conveniently near the user end of the wire so the adapter doesn't stay plugged in and consuming power all the time.
2008-12-23 .Brilliant, brilliant idea!.
2008-12-23 .I have two drawers full of wires and plugs. I can't find the right one. When I travel I have simply way to many plugs. It is SUCH a waste and a pain. I want my green plug..
2008-12-23 .Good idea!.
2008-12-22 .I just recently upgraded my phone at the end of my two year contract with Verizon. What am i supposed to do with my last (now useless) charger? Plant it in yard and hope for a charger tree? How about just having one universal charger for everything? What a concept! Make it happen..
2008-12-22 .To continue to have the hassle and waste of energy in carrying around all the different power adapters when the technology is now available to streamline the entire process is very frustrating. I wish GreenPlug much success in converting the major electronics companies from just talking a good 'green game' to actively participating in solving this problem. Good luck,
Steve.
2008-12-22 .Ambitious but promising idea. Will you make this quest into a global effort?.
2008-12-22 .my other laptop is an acer.
2008-12-22 .I have so many power adapters sitting around unused, every device I buy comes with another adapter, even laptops from the same manufacturer have different power requirements!.
2008-12-22 .Two big reasons: 1) environmental waste of throwing away non-standard power plugs of the dozens of devices i use 2) inconvenience of carrying at least 5 power supplies on any given trip.
2008-12-21 .What a great idea! Not needing t get a new charger or power cord just because I have anew device would be wonderful and get rid of my taqngle of no longer used wires..
2008-12-21 .i hate things. keep it simple!.
2008-12-21 .Cool idea, will be very difficult to implement....
2008-12-20 .Great idea as you would not have to have a new adapter every time you buy a gadget.
2008-12-20 .I'm with you. Let's save energy. Let's conserve. Go America!.
2008-12-19 .I'm tired of carrying 5+ adapters with me every time I travel, and tired of getting a brand new proprietary power supply everytime I get a new device, and tired of the tangled mess of chords and adapters I have for all my gear at home, and never sure which one connects to which. So much waste, and waste is wasteful and bad for the planet (and it's inhabitants, us people). It's time for a change! I'll be happy to pay more for a universal power supply if it can help solve all these problems....
2008-12-19 .Can't wait to get my own GreenPlug Device!.
2008-12-19 .I am REALLY weary of dragging multiple chargers around the USA on my trips. PLEASE add Greenplug technology to your next generation of laptops..
2008-12-19 .Sooner the better!.
2008-12-19 .This is a great idea, why hasn't this happened sooner?.
2008-12-18 .This is a long overdue idea. All electrical outlets are the same in our homes, why can't we do the same for our power supplies and adapters?.
2008-12-18 .I have so many adapters - also from old devices- waste!
let's have ONE for all..
2008-12-18 .I hope to lessen the amount of power adaptors in my drawers at home for the many electronic equipments, like phones from different companies. Let's save resources and save our planet! Thanks! =).
2008-12-18 .I think this is a great idea, long overdue.
2008-12-18 .USB covers a lot of these use cases.
2008-12-18 .green plug please.
2008-12-18 .I've been wanting something like this for a long time. Convenient and good for the environment..
2008-12-18 .Let's do this!.
2008-12-18 .I think this is a fantastic idea. I can't wait to see what comes of it..
2008-12-18 .oook i really really want that plug.
2008-12-18 .It isn't hard to fix this problem, it just costs money. I'm happy to pay more for the lower environmental impact, but more importantly to avoid lugging a ton of junk around..
2008-12-18 .Great idea!.
2008-12-18 .It's well past time for the government to regulate and insist on universal power cable standards. I have a tangle of electronic power cords, the least they could do is demand that each cable is labeled..
2008-12-18 .I've long argued that there should be a single 12v. DC standard. Having a different device with a different plug for anything I buy is just stupid. In many ways, it seems that USB is becoming a good 'make-do' standard. My phone and my iPod both charge via USB, so I don't have to be concerned with those adapters...except I paid for them. And eventually I'll have to trash them..
2008-12-18 .Good idea..
2008-12-18 .I think this is a great idea..
2008-12-18 .A universal power cord would do wonders for me. Or even a universal device power cord (a universal cord for all cells phones and another universal cord for all digital camera)..
2008-12-18 .This is way overdue!.
2008-12-18 .This sounds like a perfect idea. Not only is multiple power chords annoying, but what do you do with all of them when you get rid of the device. I hope this idea gains more traction. .
2008-12-18 .Consolidation of power adapters should be a win-win. Both consumers and manufacturers would benefit..
2008-12-18 .Should include Desktop Computers as well. They are very thirsty for energy - especially servers and gaming systems. My PC has a kilowatt power supply and they sell computers with 1.2Kw now. It's as if I had a microwave on cooking for hours on end..
2008-12-18 .Will be a good product.
How can this meet all different types of dc output plugs, voltages, current limits, and communication IDs?.
2008-12-18 .It would be great if all of our equipment had compatible power plugs. No more frustration at leaving the laptop power supply behind!.
2008-12-18 .I want one universal power adapter for all my electronic devices!.
2008-12-18 .Great idea, definitely about time. All my power cords actually make me feel claustrophobic and tangled up! .
2008-12-18 .MagSafe on the device end, USB plus ground on the other. End of story. ;-).
2008-12-18 .The MagSafe connector from Apple is inspired; small, convenient, safe..
2008-12-18 .sounds like an excellent idea. should have happened years ago.
2008-12-18 .this is great thank you.
2008-12-18 .I have been wanting this for a very long time. Even the same manufacturer will sometimes have different plugs (e.g. Dell). Google has called for a standard and now Green Plug is here. Hopefully we will get this ... it is long overdue. .
2008-12-18 .Great cause. Surely an opportunity for manufacturers to reduce costs too! .
2008-12-18 .One plug will decluter my desk, my car, my kitchen, my bedroom, my life....
2008-12-18 .I think your name says it all, we need only one plug to keep our planet green..
2008-12-18 .please make this happen! I love the idea of greenplug! .
2008-12-18 .This is way over due..
2008-12-18 .Great ideas guys!.
2008-12-17 .An idea long overdue, thanks!.
2008-12-17 .A universal charger that can provide power to my laptop and smartphone would be HUGELY helpful for the business traveler and certainly would make for a strong selling point. C'mon now, let's get rid of useless power supplies!.
2008-12-17 .Life would be so much easier if I could just plug all my devices into one plug and not have have multiple plugs for all my devices..
2008-12-17 .I want a green plug..
2008-12-17 .Great idea. It's bad enough that powersupplies aren't interchangeable between different manufacturers but it's RIDICULOUS that in most cases they aren't even interchangeable between different devices from the SAME manufacturer.
2008-12-17 .I hate traveling around with 5 adapters. I even had bought a swiss converter to avoid this. please come up with standard cable and plus solutions!.
2008-12-17 .This is a great idea. I hope the producers agree with it and start harmonizing standards..
2008-12-17 .One plug? That would be a dream come true. I'm tired of seeing the ugly wires EVERYWHERE! And it's a shame to know that every electronic purchase or upgrade is unnecessarily contributing to landfill just because I can't reuse my adaptors. Senseless. I'm excited to see GreenPlug launch, and I can't wait to get my own!.
2008-12-17 .Cord free and green all the way is my vote.
2008-12-17 .this is an idea whose time has COME!
C'mon Steve, get on the wagon and be the leader that you are. Innovators control the tempo!.
2008-12-17 .Love it!.
2008-12-17 .Great idea. Make it available in homes, as well as hotels and other destinations for ease of travel. It should also be encouraged in offices..
2008-12-16 .Great idea, long time coming.
I just cant see why this is not adopted immediately. Best of luck in this endeavor..
2008-12-16 .love it!.
2008-12-16 .I have a Palm phone and very happy that the charging device can be used with some other phones and came with an alternate adapter piece..
2008-12-16 .most of these devices i've listed are grouped in one place. to have one power source for all of these devices would be wonderful.
2008-12-16 .When I travel, my chargers take up more space in my luggage than my accessories! I keep the power supplies to the devices that have gone by the wayside in a box at home, and recently took about twenty to the E-waste facility down the street. Imagine all of these things (with their lead solder, tantalum capacitors, etc.) ending up in the landfill..
2008-12-16 .great idea!
